Take on the full Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park experience on this six-hour, eight-mile guided hike covering the park's most iconic landmarks. The custom route begins at Kīlauea Visitor Center and descends 500 feet into Halema'uma'u Crater — site of ongoing volcanic activity — before crossing the hardened lava lake of Kīlauea Iki Crater, exploring the iconic Thurston Lava Tube, and walking through enchanting native Hawaiian forest.
The total trek covers approximately 1,000 feet of elevation gain and descent across varied volcanic terrain. Along the way, your expert eco guide shares insights about the park's geology, volcanology, history, and the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this dynamic ecosystem. A gourmet lunch is prepared and served by your guide in a serene natural setting midway through the hike.
Small group sizes of 2–6 participants ensure personalized attention. All gear is provided including backpacks, trekking poles, snacks, and lunch. Bring your own water (2 liters recommended), sunblock, hat, sunglasses, and sturdy hiking boots. Moderate fitness required — you should be comfortable hiking for several hours on steep and uneven terrain. Open to guests ages 7–99.
Meet at the Kīlauea Visitor Center parking lot 15 minutes before your start time. National park pass required (purchased separately at the gate or online).
