A Guided Hike Adventure Kilauea Iki and Lava Tube

Hike through two of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park's most iconic features on this 4.5-hour guided adventure covering 4.5 miles (7.5 km). The route takes you from Halema'uma'u Crater — where you may witness the effects of Kīlauea's ongoing eruptions — across the hardened lava lake of Kīlauea Iki Crater, and through the enchanting Nāhuku (Thurston) Lava Tube.

Trek across the dramatic volcanic terrain of Kīlauea Iki, formed during the powerful 1959 eruption, and walk through ancient lava flows inside the lava tube while your guide explains the geological forces that shaped this extraordinary landscape. The route also winds through native Hawaiian forest, home to rare plants and birds found nowhere else on earth.

Small group sizes of 2–6 participants ensure a personal, educational experience with expert eco guides who share their passion for the park's geology, ecology, and cultural significance. All gear including backpacks, trekking poles, and snacks is provided. Bring your own water, sunblock, hat, sunglasses, and sturdy hiking shoes.

Suitable for beginners and open to guests ages 7–99. Meet at the Kīlauea Visitor Center. National park pass required (purchased separately).
