About this tour
The Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary in Kailua-Kona is the meeting point and setting for this guided walk along the Pantropical Lower Loop Trail. The tour opens with an introduction to the sanctuary before moving into an extended exploration of the forest, covering its climate, geology, ecological history, and the effects of human activity on this landscape. Walking sticks, bug spray, and water are included.
The trail runs over natural volcanic rock and tree root terrain with gentle elevation changes, so participants should be comfortable walking and standing throughout without sitting. Closed-toe shoes and a rain jacket are recommended, as rain can fall at any time in a cloud forest environment. Bring a reusable water bottle and any snacks needed, as food and drinks beyond water are not provided on site. Strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs cannot be accommodated.
