About this tour
A guide leads the walk along the Extended Montane Jungle Trail through areas of rare trees, ferns, palms, bamboo, and flowers, covering both the Pan-Tropical Forest and the Montane-Tropical Forest sections of the property. The tour includes an introduction to the sanctuary, then moves through reforested areas at higher elevations that other tours do not visit. Native Hawaiian honeycreepers and other birds can be heard and seen along the trail. Walking sticks, bug spray, and photos are included.
This tour suits people who want a thorough, guided exploration of the full sanctuary and are comfortable walking on natural terrain of volcanic rock and tree roots without sitting for an extended period. Strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs cannot be accommodated. Arrive a little early, as the program starts on time. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring a rain jacket, since rain is possible at any time in a cloud forest.
