Experience the Big Island's volcanic heartland, a working chocolate farm, and one of Hilo's most iconic waterfalls on this comprehensive full-day adventure led by National Park Certified Guides. Hawaii Forest & Trail's longest tour covers an extraordinary range of landscapes and experiences across the island.
Your day begins with an in-depth exploration of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, where your interpretive guide illuminates the dramatic geological forces that have shaped Kīlauea — including the historically large collapse of Halemaumau Crater that forever changed the summit landscape. Short guided hikes take you through the park's most dynamic terrain, tailored to your group's interests and current volcanic conditions.
Next, visit Lavaloha Chocolate Farm, a 1,000-acre private tropical farm where you'll learn the complete journey from cacao tree to finished chocolate through an interactive tasting experience. The day continues with a stop at Rainbow Falls in Hilo, where an 80-foot cascade plunges into a natural pool framed by lush tropical foliage.
All park entrance fees and farm admission are included, along with a full lunch, morning and afternoon snacks, and beverages throughout the day. Gear is provided: trekking poles, day packs, raingear, bug repellent, and sunscreen. Groups are limited to 12 guests for a personalized experience.
Pickup is available from multiple locations on both the Kona and Hilo sides of the island. Please note this is a long day — approximately 11.5 hours from Kona — with an estimated return after 7:00 PM. Ages 6 and up are welcome, and child safety seats are available upon request.
