Start at the Waipio Valley Lookout for sweeping views of towering sea cliffs and a mile-long black sand beach. Drive the scenic Hamakua Coast to the famous 442-foot Akaka Falls. At the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden in Onomea Bay, stroll rainforest trails past streams and waterfalls among over 2,000 species of exotic tropical plants.
The highlight is Kulaniapia Falls - Hawai'i's largest privately accessible waterfall - where you can take a refreshing swim beneath the 120-foot cascade (weather permitting). Continue to the 80-foot Rainbow Falls, then return via the scenic Saddle Road between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
