Explore Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park on a guided three-hour, four-mile afternoon hike led by passionate eco guides. Walk through rare native rainforest, discover steam vents where gas escapes through volcanic cracks, and take in panoramic views from the floor of Kīlauea caldera — with the chance to glimpse a glowing lava lake or lava fountain when conditions allow.
Small group sizes of 2–6 participants ensure a personal, educational experience. Your guide shares insights about the park's ecology, geology, volcanology, and the native flora and fauna that thrive in this dynamic landscape. Since Kīlauea resumed erupting in late 2024, spectacular lava fountaining events reaching over 1,000 feet have occurred regularly, providing a dramatic backdrop for your hike.
Backpacks, trekking poles, rain jackets, and snacks are provided. Bring your own water, sunblock, hat, sunglasses, and closed-toe shoes. The hike is suitable for beginners and open to guests ages 7–99.
Meet at the Kīlauea Visitor Center in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park (meeting location may change due to eruption activity — you'll be notified via text and email).
