2-tank Manta Ray Night Charter

Dive into one of the world's top-rated night dives with Kona Diving Company's 2-Tank Manta Ray Night Charter. This 2.5-hour experience at Makako Bay (Garden Eel Cove) includes two dives — a late afternoon reef dive followed by the main event after dark, when bright lights attract plankton and manta rays glide in for their mesmerizing feeding ballet.

On the first dive, guides point out the cove's unique marine life, including Hawaiian garden eels, while setting up lights for the night dive. During the surface interval, the crew shares insights on manta ray behavior and briefs you for the night dive. Once darkness falls, mantas often swoop just inches over divers' heads as they feed.

Groups are kept small — no more than 5 divers per PADI divemaster. Air tanks, dive weights, lights, defog, masks, snorkels, and fins are included, along with snacks (including homemade brownies) and hot and cold beverages. The boat has sun and shade areas, a cabin, and a hot freshwater shower. Snorkelers are also welcome.

Open Water SCUBA certification required for divers. Ages 8 and up. Manta sightings are likely but not guaranteed — if none appear, guides lead an exploratory night reef dive instead.
