Watch a famous Kona sunset from the boat, then slip into the water for close encounters with wild manta rays on this 4-hour evening charter. Both divers and snorkelers are welcome — in-water guides help locate mantas feeding at the surface and ensure everyone's safety and comfort.
Snorkelers float at the surface watching manta rays glide and roll just below, attracted by underwater lights that draw in the plankton they feed on. Divers descend to the ocean floor for eye-level views of these gentle giants, which can have wingspans up to 18 feet.
For snorkelers, wetsuit, mask, snorkel, and fins are provided. All participants must be confident swimmers with previous snorkeling experience — no flotation devices. For divers, mask, fins, tanks, weights, and dive lights are available to rent. If it's been over 2 years since your last dive, a refresher course is recommended before booking.
Light snacks, filtered water, and hot chocolate are included. Check in at the Big Island Divers shop, then drive to Honokōhau Harbor (about 3 miles). Ages 10 and older. Manta sightings are not guaranteed as they are wild creatures affected by ocean conditions, but Kona's manta population is one of the most reliable in the world.
