About this tour
The tour begins with a guided introduction to the sanctuary, then moves into the Pantropical Lower Loop Trail, where guests walk through areas of native and global plants, ferns, palms, bamboo, and flowering trees while listening to native Hawaiian honeycreepers. A guide covers the climate, geology, and history of the cloud forest ecosystem, including reforested areas and the human impact on this habitat.
The trail is rated easy and suits families with young children, plant lovers, and anyone who wants a shorter outdoor walk. Walkers must be comfortable moving over natural volcanic rock and tree root terrain and should be able to walk and stand for extended periods without sitting. Strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs cannot be accommodated on the trail.
Walking sticks, bug spray, water, and photos are included. Bring a rain jacket, closed-toe shoes, a hat, and a reusable water bottle. Snacks and additional drinks are available for purchase on site.
