A local guide who is also a Leilani Estates resident leads the walk, pointing out the lava river channels, a large tree mold that visitors can descend into, and the lot where the guide's own home once stood before the flow covered it. The name Ahu'Ailā'au means "Shrine of the Forest Eater," a title chosen through community submissions. The tour also moves through Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, with stops at the Kīlauea Visitor Center, Kīlauea Iki, the Halemaʻumaʻu Crater overlook, Haʻakulamanu (Sulphur Banks), and Thurston Lava Tube. Hilo sightseeing rounds out the day, covering Banyan Tree Drive, Queen Liliʻuokalani Gardens, Richardson Black Sand Beach, Rainbow Falls, and the King Kamehameha Statue. Pickup is available at several Hilo hotels and at Hilo Harbor and Hilo Airport. Lunch options and Hawaiian-style juices and water are included.
