The dive site features a gradual slope from shallow coral gardens to deeper volcanic formations at 30-40 feet. Green sea turtles frequently graze on algae along the rocky bottom, while schools of yellow tangs and parrotfish navigate the coral heads. The bay's protection from prevailing winds keeps visibility consistently good, often reaching 60-80 feet. Beginning and intermediate divers appreciate the site's forgiving nature and reliable marine life encounters. Advanced divers might find it too mellow unless they're introducing nervous companions to Big Island diving or seeking a relaxing second dive.
