City Slicker Ride

Saddle up for a gentle horseback ride through one of Hawaii's most iconic working cattle ranches. The City Slicker Ride at Ponoholo Ranch takes you on a relaxing walking-pace tour across 11,000 acres of rolling green pastureland at 3,000 feet elevation in North Kohala.

This 1.5-hour experience (approximately one hour in the saddle) is designed for beginners and those who prefer a calm, leisurely ride. Your horse walks the entire time — no trotting or cantering — making it ideal for first-time riders and families with children ages 8 and up.

From the elevated ranch lands, take in sweeping panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the Kohala and Kona coastlines, and all five of Hawaii Island's major volcanoes. On clear days, you can even spot the island of Maui across the channel. The ranch sits 10–15 degrees cooler than the coast, providing a refreshing change from the tropical heat below.

Boots, light jackets, Australian duster jackets, and helmets are provided. Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. Check-in begins at 1:30 PM at the ranch on Kohala Mountain Road.
