Spearfishing

This spearfishing course, offered through Kona Honu Divers in Kailua-Kona, follows the FII Spearfishing curriculum, a standardized program built around safety education and sustainable fishing practices.

The course covers spearfishing safety, equipment, hunting techniques, ethics, and catch management. The first day takes place as an online classroom session. The second day begins with an in-person classroom portion, followed by a lunch break, an ocean session, and a final exam. Participants need to bring or rent a mask, snorkel, fins, weight belt, wetsuit, and dive knife. Spearfishing gear is provided.

The meeting location is on Luhia Street in Kailua-Kona. Students should plan for possible travel to dive sites that require driving time from the shop. A completed medical statement is required, and some participants may need a physician's signature before taking part. Gear such as masks, fins, and wetsuits is available for rent or purchase through the shop, though bringing personal equipment is strongly recommended.
