Kayak - Hilo Bay & Coconut Island Adventure

Step back in time and explore the rich history and natural beauty of Hilo Bay on this 2-hour guided kayak adventure. Led by a knowledgeable local guide, this small-group experience (maximum 6 guests) combines gentle paddling with storytelling, Hawaiian culture, and incredible scenery.

After a safety briefing and paddling orientation, you'll set out onto the calm, protected waters of Hilo Bay with panoramic views of Mauna Kea to the north and Mauna Loa to the south. The bay's gentle conditions make this perfect for paddlers of all experience levels, including beginners.

Your guide shares the fascinating history of Queen Lili'uokalani Gardens, a serene Japanese-style park honoring Hawai'i's last reigning monarch, before you paddle to Coconut Island (Moku Ola), a beloved local gathering spot just offshore. The island's sheltered beaches, tide pools, and calm lagoon offer the perfect place to relax and explore with views of historic Hilo town.

Along the way, hear stories of Hilo's past - from its plantation days to the tsunamis that reshaped its shoreline - and learn about the deep cultural connection between the land, sea, and people of Hawai'i.

Tour includes kayak, paddle, life jacket, professional local guide, bottled water, light snacks, and all safety gear and instruction. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, comfortable water shoes, a towel, and a camera.
