About This Experience

Explore Hilo's most remote and pristine reef sites on this 4-hour, two-tank boat dive along the Hamakua Coast. Departing from Hilo Harbor, you'll travel north past cascading waterfalls, Mauna Kea's slopes, and remnants of historic sugar plantations to reach dive sites only accessible by boat.

This experience is designed for experienced certified divers with a minimum of 15 logged dives. Below the surface, you'll discover spectacular volcanic terrain — pinnacles, lava shelves, swim-throughs, and coral-covered canyons that showcase the raw beauty of Hawai'i's underwater landscape. The reefs are alive with vibrant coral, endemic Hawaiian fish species, and green sea turtles gliding through the current.

Along the way, spinner dolphins sometimes play in the boat's wake, and during winter months you may spot breaching humpback whales in the distance. Between dives, enjoy light refreshments while taking in the stunning coastal scenery.

Tour includes two air tanks, weights, expert divemaster guide, bottled water, and light snacks. Gear rentals (mask, fins, wetsuit, BCD, regulator) are available. Typical dive depths range from 40 to 80 feet, with water temperatures of 75 to 80°F — a 3mm wetsuit is recommended.

Requirements: Certified divers (Open Water or higher) with 15+ logged dives. A refresher is required if inactive for 2+ years. Must present proof of certification at check-in, carry 50 lbs of equipment unassisted, and complete the PADI/NAUI medical questionnaire 72 hours before the excursion. Not suitable for guests who are pregnant, over 300 lbs, have back or mobility problems, or cannot swim unassisted. All divers must wait at least 18 hours before ascending above 2,500 ft after this dive.

Small guided groups. Cancellation with full refund available up to 48 hours in advance.
