About This Experience

Cover nearly 20 miles of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park on a four-hour guided e-bike tour that takes you along the crater rim of Kīlauea, through lush rainforest, across ancient lava fields, and into lava tubes formed by past eruptions. The Specialized pedal-assist electric bikes make the distance comfortable for all fitness levels — use the motor to cruise effortlessly, or switch it off for a proper workout.

Your guide shares the park's geological story, Hawaiian cultural history including the legends of Pele, and points out native flora and fauna along the route. Key stops include the Kīlauea Caldera overlook and active steam vents rising from the earth. The tour includes a MIPS-rated helmet, ride snacks, a water bottle, and rain gear. Groups of six or more get a follow vehicle for added support.

Riders must be comfortable cycling on open roads alongside cars — the route shares pavement with park traffic and has narrow shoulders in spots. The minimum age is 10, and kid-specific e-bikes are available for ages 8–13 (contact the operator in advance). Meet at the Visitor Center inside the park, or at the Hilo pier if arriving by cruise ship. Bring closed-toe shoes and dress in layers — summit temperatures can be significantly cooler than the coast.
