Peʻepeʻe Falls is on the Wailuku River above Boiling Pots, a section of Wailuku River State Park reached via Waiānuenue Avenue in downtown Hilo. The Boiling Pots area is at the end of Peʻepeʻe Falls Drive. From the Boiling Pots overlook below the falls, USGS points out lava pillows from a Mauna Loa flow across the river, and it notes that the Wailuku River roughly marks the boundary between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea lava flows. State Parks lists falling rocks, a hazardous cliff, flash floods and submerged objects as hazards in the park.
