Spencer Beach Park, which the County names Spencer Park at ʻOhaiʻula Beach, is a County beach park with a white sand beach in Kawaihae. Puʻukoholā Heiau National Historic Site is next door; from Kawaihae Road, take the Puʻukoholā Heiau road, and the park is just past the visitor center. The County lists parking, picnic areas, restrooms, showers, fire pits, lifeguards and security, and the National Park Service adds paved, wheelchair friendly trail segments. People come to swim, snorkel, dive, fish and picnic. Camping is by permit. The Ala Kahakai trail is open to the public between here and ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay, and black-crowned night herons are often seen fishing along the shore toward Pelekane. The County warns of hazardous footing, currents and waves.
From Kawaihae Road, follow the Puʻukoholā Heiau road; the park is just past the visitor center.
