Magic Sands Beach (La'aloa)

Kailua-Kona

A County beach park on Aliʻi Drive whose white sand comes and goes with the seasons, with lifeguards every day.

Magic Sands Beach Park is a County beach park on Aliʻi Drive in Kailua-Kona, also known as Laʻaloa, White Sands and Disappearing Sands. The name comes from its sand: coarse white sand piles up in summer and winter storms scour it away. Lifeguards from the Hawaiʻi Fire Department staff the park every day, and the County lists parking, restrooms, showers, drinking water and grills. People come to swim and surf, and green sea turtles are often seen here, so give them space. The shoreline around the sand is rocky, and the County warns of hazardous footing, currents and waves.
