About this tour
This stand-up paddleboarding tour follows the calm waters of the Wailoa River in Hilo, starting from the Wailoa boat ramp. Paddlers glide through peaceful channels, pass beneath Japanese-style bridges known as "dragon arches," and move through the Wailoa River State Recreation Area, which contains an arboretum with notable tree species. The route leads to a stop near the King Kamehameha Statue, where a guide shares stories about Hilo's history, including events related to tsunamis that shaped the town. Native birds and fish can be spotted along the way.
A board, paddle, safety gear, bottled water, and light snacks are all provided. Younger paddlers are welcome, and minors must be accompanied by an adult.
