Glide along the calm, scenic waters of Hilo's Wailoa River on this 1-hour guided stand-up paddleboard (SUP) adventure. Perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers alike, this relaxing tour is a great way to connect with nature and explore one of Hilo's most tranquil waterways.
After a guided launch from the Wailoa boat ramp, paddle through peaceful channels lined with lush greenery and glide beneath graceful Japanese-style bridges, often called the "dragon arches" for their elegant design. Spot native birds, colorful fish, and other wildlife that call the river home.
Midway through the paddle, pause near the King Kamehameha Statue while your guide shares stories about Hilo's history — from the rise of King Kamehameha to the tsunamis that reshaped the town. You'll also pass through the Wailoa River State Recreation Area, home to an arboretum featuring some of the largest tree species outside of Africa.
Tour includes stand-up paddleboard, paddle, safety gear, professional guide, bottled water, and light snacks. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, comfortable water shoes, a towel, and a camera.
Ages 8 and up. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Meets at 1717 Kamehameha Ave, Hilo. Cancellation with full refund available up to 48 hours in advance.
