Experience the vibrant underwater world of Hilo's east coast on this 2.5-hour guided one-tank shore dive. Your expert local dive team leads you from a shore entry into calm, clear waters where cool freshwater springs mix with the ocean to create a thriving reef ecosystem unlike anywhere else.
Explore colorful coral gardens and glide alongside Hawaiian green sea turtles at a natural "cleaning station" where turtles pause while reef fish do their work. Octopus, eels, and schools of tropical fish weave through dramatic lava formations, making this a relaxed yet exciting dive for certified divers of all experience levels. Typical dive depths range from 25 to 70 feet.
The dive includes one air tank, weights, a professional divemaster guide, bottled water, and light snacks. Gear rentals (mask, fins, wetsuit, BCD, regulator) are available — arrive before your scheduled time to get fitted. Water temperature is typically 75 to 80°F, and a 3mm wetsuit is recommended.
Requirements: Certified divers only (Open Water or equivalent). A refresher is recommended if you haven't dived in 2 or more years. Must show proof of certification at check-in. Not suitable for guests who are pregnant, over 300 lbs, have back problems, or cannot swim unassisted in the open ocean. All divers must wait at least 12 hours before ascending above 2,500 ft after this dive.
