About this tour

Dive two of Kona's best local reef sites on this 5.5-hour morning charter with Big Island Divers. Check in at the dive shop at 8:00 AM, then drive to Honokōhau Small Boat Harbor to board the boat. With access to 48 different dive and snorkel sites along the Kona Coast, there's always something new to see - from tropical reef fish and coral gardens to turtles, rays, and other marine life.

The charter returns to the harbor between 1:00 and 2:00 PM. All dive equipment and two tanks are included. Both certified divers and snorkelers are welcome aboard.

Important note: Due to the Big Island's high elevation roads, it is unsafe to drive to Hilo, Volcano, or Waimea after diving. No transportation is provided - guests drive themselves from the shop to the harbor (about 3 miles).

Will I see mantas or dolphins on this scuba diving charter?

Wildlife sightings on the Local Two Tank Morning Charter cannot be guaranteed. Mantas, dolphins, and other sea life are wild creatures influenced by ocean conditions, seasonal changes, feeding trends, and other factors outside anyone's control. The staff makes all reasonable efforts to locate specific marine life. Big Island Divers works with 48 different dive and snorkel sites, which means the crew has plenty of options to find active and interesting underwater environments on any given morning. Variety in site selection helps increase the chances of encountering marine life, but no specific sightings can be promised.

Uber and Lyft also operate on the island, though the number of available drivers is limited. The shop will provide a map to Honokohau Small Boat Harbor after you complete check-in at 74-5467 Kaiwi Street in Kailua-Kona.

Are there any driving restrictions to be aware of after completing this scuba diving charter?

After diving on the Local Two Tank Morning Charter, it is unsafe to drive to Hilo, Volcano, or Waimea due to the significant elevation changes along those routes. Big Island Divers specifically flags this as a safety concern related to diving and elevation. The Big Island has five volcanoes, and the roads leading to those destinations climb to notable elevations. There is no coastal route that avoids this elevation gain. If you are planning activities or accommodations in those areas, it is important to schedule them before your dive day or on a separate day entirely.
