About this tour
Offered on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, this 5-hour advanced charter takes experienced divers to Kona's more challenging sites - locations with overhead environments, swim-throughs, and occasional drift dives that aren't visited on the standard morning charter. No students are allowed on board, keeping the group exclusively experienced divers.
All participants must have a minimum of 25 logged dives for safety and everyone's enjoyment. Check in at the Big Island Divers shop at 8:00 AM, then drive to Honokōhau Small Boat Harbor to board the boat. Ages 15 and older.
Two tanks and all dive equipment are included. No transportation is provided - guests drive themselves from the shop to the harbor (about 3 miles). Important: Due to high elevation roads on the Big Island, do not plan to drive to Hilo, Volcano, or Waimea after diving.

How much dive experience do I need to join the Advanced Local Two Tank Morning Charter?
You must have a minimum of 25 logged dives to participate in this charter. Big Island Divers enforces this requirement for everyone's safety and enjoyment, and there are no students on board - only experienced divers join this trip. This charter is specifically designed for divers who are comfortable in more challenging conditions. The sites visited can include overhead environments, swim-throughs, and drift dives, which are more technically demanding than the regular two-tank morning charter. If you are still building experience, the standard morning charter may be a better fit until you reach the 25-dive minimum.
What days does the Advanced Local Two Tank Morning Charter run?
The Advanced Local Two Tank Morning Charter runs only on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. It does not operate on other days of the week, so your booking date will need to fall on one of those two days. This limited schedule is what makes the advanced charter distinct from the regular two-tank morning charter, which runs more frequently. If your travel dates do not include a Wednesday or Saturday, you would need to consider an alternative dive option. Planning your availability around these two days is an important step before booking.
What kinds of dive sites can I expect on this advanced charter?
The Advanced Local Two Tank Morning Charter targets sites that Big Island Divers does not always visit on their regular morning charter. These include locations with overhead environments, swim-throughs, and sometimes drift dive conditions. Because these are more advanced local sites, the experience differs significantly from a standard reef dive. The exact sites visited can vary depending on conditions and other factors, but the focus is consistently on more technically interesting and challenging environments. This charter is built for divers who are ready to move beyond typical open-water reef dives.
What is the cancellation policy for the Advanced Local Two Tank Morning Charter?
Cancellations must be made by phone at least 48 hours before your check-in time to receive a full refund. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice will be charged the full charter price. Big Island Divers does not accept cancellations or changes by email - all changes to an existing reservation must be handled by phone. Their shop hours are daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time. Rescheduling to a different date also requires at least 48 hours notice before your original check-in time, so contacting them promptly is important if your plans change.
Does Big Island Divers offer transportation to the harbor for this charter?
Big Island Divers does not provide transportation between hotels, their shop, or the harbor for the Advanced Local Two Tank Morning Charter. Guests are required to check in at the shop first, and then drive themselves to the harbor, which is about 3 miles away. The shop will provide a map to the harbor for guests who need it. If you do not have a rental car, Kona Taxicab at (808) 324-4444 is specifically recommended by the operator. Uber and Lyft are also available in the Kona area, though the operator notes that the number of drivers can be limited.
