Mauna Kea Sunset & Stars Tour
This tour takes guests from pickup points in Kailua-Kona or Waikoloa Beach Resort up to Mauna Kea, stopping first at the Onizuka Visitor Center to acclimatize before continuing by four-wheel-drive vehicle to the summit. There, the group watches the sunset above the clouds before descending to a stargazing location, where a guide uses a laser pointer and telescope to identify stars and constellations. Warm layers, closed-toe shoes, and drinking water are essential to bring. Each ticket includes four-wheel-drive transportation, a heavy-duty hooded parka for the cold summit conditions, Big Island snacks, and hot chocolate. Meals, gratuity, and hotel pickup are not included unless hotel pickup is selected at booking. The difficulty is rated moderate, and the tour is not suitable for young children.
