Māhukona Beach Park is a County park with a rocky shoreline in North Kohala, reached from Māhukona Park Road off Akoni Pule Highway. The County guide lists fishing and picnicking, and the place is also known as a dive and snorkeling site. Māhukona Harbor was built as a port for the Kohala sugar plantations and a landing for interisland steamers. Sugar came down by rail, and small boats carried the bags out to freighters offshore; the port has closed, and ruins of its buildings remain on the shore. The County warns of hazardous footing, currents and waves.
