Anaehoomalu Bay (A-Bay) Snorkel

Snorkelers at ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay, often called A-Bay, get in from the beach park at Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Kohala coast. ʻAnaehoʻomalu means protected mullet in Hawaiian, and the National Park Service tells of two fishponds here, Kuʻualiʻi and Kahapapa, that once raised mullet for royalty. The resort lists free parking, showers and restrooms at the beach park, so rinsing off afterward is easy. As anywhere on a reef, bring reef-safe sunscreen, look before you get in, and float over coral rather than standing on it.
