Black Water Dive

One of the most unique dives offered anywhere in the world. About 3 miles offshore, where the water is over a mile deep, you'll begin a drift dive in open ocean darkness — suspended above the abyss with only dive lights illuminating the water around you. The lights attract a nightly vertical migration of deep-sea creatures rising from the depths, revealing some of the strangest and most rarely seen animals in the ocean.

This is a challenging dive suited to experienced divers comfortable in open water at night with no bottom reference. Ages 15 and older. The 3-hour charter returns to Honokōhau Harbor between 11:00 PM and midnight.

Check in at the Big Island Divers shop, then drive to the harbor (about 3 miles). No transportation provided. Kona's deep offshore waters and calm conditions make it one of the few places in the world where black water diving is offered regularly.
