Hammerhead Shark Search
The Hammerhead Shark Search departs from Honokohau Harbor on the Big Island and heads out to reef and offshore sites where sharks may be encountered in Hawaiian waters. The crew focuses specifically on finding sharks, including scalloped hammerheads, oceanic white tips, silkies, sandbars, Galapagos sharks, oceanic blacktips, tiger sharks, and gray reef sharks. A coastal cruise back to the harbor closes out the outing. Mask, snorkel, fins, assorted snacks, and refreshments are all included. Swimmers should bring reef-safe mineral sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, sun-protective clothing, a warm layer, and towels. A camera or personal dive gear are optional additions worth considering. There is no bathroom on board, so plan accordingly before departure. Participants must be able to climb a ladder and move independently on a moving boat.
Long Range Pelagic Safari
Long Range Pelagic Safari is a deep-water charter run by See Through Sea out of Honokohau Harbor in Kailua-Kona, built for advanced marine enthusiasts who want to travel further offshore than a standard trip allows. The boat heads out into Kona's open blue water and stays there for the full trip, covering as much ground as possible in search of pelagic marine species. A private option is available for those who prefer an exclusive outing. Snorkel gear, water, and an assortment of snacks are provided. Guests should bring towels, a hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen, and a warm layer for the return ride. The trip departs from the north side of Honokohau Harbor, where crew members meet guests near the bathrooms between the two boat ramps. This charter is rated expert level and is not suitable for pregnant women, people with back or health issues, or those above the weight limit stated on the booking page.
About
See Through Sea runs small-group boat charters out of Kailua-Kona focused on open-ocean encounters with sharks and other pelagic species. The Hammerhead Shark Search takes guests offshore to look for scalloped hammerheads, which may be found in the winter and spring, as well as Oceanic Whitetip sharks that frequent the deep waters along the Kona coast. The goal is a face-to-face encounter with large pelagic predators in their natural environment.
The Long Range Pelagic Safari goes farther offshore and runs longer, targeting rare species in deep water. It is designed for the advanced enthusiast who wants to push beyond typical snorkel charter territory. Snorkel gear, water and snacks are provided on that trip.
Both charters keep groups small and depart from the same meeting point in Kailua-Kona.
