Mauna Kea Stargazing Experience + Free Photos
This stargazing experience takes place on the slopes of Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa, at a remote mountain location selected the day of the tour based on cloud cover. The exact spot is sent to guests by text with directions beforehand, and any standard rental car can reach it. A professional astronomer leads an interactive star talk covering constellations, star clusters, and deep-sky objects visible through a powerful telescope, while an astro-photographer captures night-sky images throughout the session. Parka jackets and reclining chairs are provided for comfort, and hot chocolate and chocolates are served when available. Complimentary group portrait photos with the Milky Way, plus deep-sky telescope images, are delivered after the tour. A night vision scope is available on request. Optional high-resolution photo upgrades are available at extra cost. Hotel pickup is not offered, so guests drive to the meeting point in Waimea. Comfortable pants, a sweatshirt, and walking shoes are recommended. The tour is not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs.
