About This Experience

Having lived on Kauai for years, I can tell you the Waimea Canyon, Wailua River & Fern Grotto Tour (K1) captures everything that makes our island extraordinary. This 9 hours and 45 minutes adventure weaves together three of Kauai's most beloved destinations in one unforgettable day.

Your morning starts at Waimea Canyon – locals call it "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific" for good reason. Stretching over 10 miles long, 1 mile wide, and more than 3,000 feet deep, the canyon's red earth and emerald valleys create views that never get old. The canyon lookout reveals dramatic gorges carved by centuries of wind and rain, while nearby ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls cascades 151 feet down a 40-foot-wide cliff. The waterfall's name means "rolling shrimp" – a nod to the tiny creatures that once thrived in these streams.

The pace shifts beautifully as you board an open-air boat for a two-mile cruise down the Wailua River. Your guide shares island stories as you drift through lush rainforest to the famous Fern Grotto, where ancient lava formed a natural amphitheater draped in tropical ferns. Here, you'll hear a live performance of the Hawaiian wedding song echoing through this sacred space.

The Waimea Canyon, Wailua River & Fern Grotto Tour (K1) also stops at Spouting Horn Blowhole, where ocean swells rocket salt water through volcanic rock formations, and Hanapepe Valley Lookout for sweeping views of wild sugarcane and native forest.

Departing at 7:45 AM and returning around 5:30 PM, the tour includes air-conditioned transportation, all attraction admissions, and expert narration. You'll break for lunch in charming Old Koloa Town. Note the winding mountain roads – those prone to motion sickness should consider this carefully, and infants ride on adult laps.
